Maximum Northern Hemisphere warming rates before and after 1880 during the Common Era

چکیده

Abstract We find that maximal decadal Northern Hemisphere warming increases as rapidly before after the industrial revolution (0.86 °C decade −1 1880 and 0.60–0.68 1880). However, whereas number of periods with large increase decrease rates were about equal (267 vs. 273), there are more high (35) than (9). The same patterns hold for bi-decadal rates. time windows greater 20 years, slope in global becomes 1880. After 1971, is only one short 11 year period negative slopes. This reflects higher frequency positive slopes during caused by contribution greenhouse gases (GHG). Maximum temperature changes detrended series associated beginning end extreme warm or cold sub periods. They occurred throughout all Common Era. Because showed sign a pacemaker mechanism (regular cycle periods) we suggest ocean variabilities dominating multidecadal variability

Global Warming and Northern Hemisphere Sea Ice Extent.

Surface and satellite-based observations show a decrease in Northern Hemisphere sea ice extent during the past 46 years. A comparison of these trends to control and transient integrations (forced by observed greenhouse gases and tropospheric sulfate aerosols) from the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and Hadley Centre climate models reveals that the observed decrease in Northern Hemisphere...

Simulated versus observed patterns of warming over the extratropical Northern Hemisphere continents during the cold season.

A suite of the historical simulations run with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report (IPCC AR4) models forced by greenhouse gases, aerosols, stratospheric ozone depletion, and volcanic eruptions and a second suite of simulations forced by increasing CO(2) concentrations alone are compared with observations for the reference interval 1965-2000. Surface air temper...

Intensification of Northern Hemisphere subtropical highs in a warming climate

Semi-permanent high-pressure systems over the subtropical oceans, known as subtropical highs, influence atmospheric circulation, as well as global climate. For instance, subtropical highs largely determine the location of the world’s subtropical deserts, the zones of Mediterranean climate and the tracks of tropical cyclones. The intensity of two such high-pressure systems, present over the Nort...

Seasonally different response of photosynthetic activity to daytime and night-time warming in the Northern Hemisphere.

Over the last century the Northern Hemisphere has experienced rapid climate warming, but this warming has not been evenly distributed seasonally, as well as diurnally. The implications of such seasonal and diurnal heterogeneous warming on regional and global vegetation photosynthetic activity, however, are still poorly understood. Here, we investigated for different seasons how photosynthetic a...

The role of dynamically induced variability in the recent warming trend slowdown over the Northern Hemisphere

Since the slowing of the trend of increasing surface air temperature (SAT) in the late 1990 s, intense interest and debate have arisen concerning the contribution of human activities to the warming observed in previous decades. Although several explanations have been proposed for the warming-trend slowdown (WTS), none has been generally accepted. We investigate the WTS using a recently develope...
